What is RestylaneŽ made of?
Restylane is composed of Hyaluronic acid which is a naturally
found component of our skin.
Why is hyaluronic acid so important?
Healthy, young skin is smooth and elastic and contains a large
amount of hyaluronic acid. The lower skin layer (dermis) primarily
contains two protein fibers: collagen and elastin. Together collagen
and elastin create a framework for supporting essential skin
structures. The dermis is keep hydrated by floating these proteins
and other vital skin structures in a “sea” of hyaluronic acid.
Hyaluronic acid is capable of binding 1000X its own weight in water
and is therefore essential for maintaining skin integrity and
fullness.
The ability of our skin to produce hyaluronic acid slowly diminishes
with time. As a consequence of this volume loss, our skin becomes
looser leading to wrinkling and an aged appearance. Treatment with
