What is Perlane®?

Like Restylane, Perlane is a clear gel formulation of a natural hyaluronic
acid that is specifically formulated to add fullness like your body's own hyaluronic acid.

Just like Restylane, Perlane adds volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds).

What makes Perlane different is the average size of the particles and the depth of injection. On average, the gel particles in Perlane are larger than those in Restylane, which makes Perlane a good choice for wrinkles that benefit from a deeper injection into the skin.

What is Perlane® made of?

 Perlane is composed of Hyaluronic acid which is a naturally found component of our skin.

How does Perlane® differ from Restylane®?

Perlane is a denser cosmetic dermal filler than Restylane because the individual particle sizes of the hyaluronic acid molecule in Perlane are substantially larger. Because of its greater density, Perlane is primarily used for deeper facial folds and facial contouring.

Why is hyaluronic acid so important?

Healthy, young skin is smooth and elastic and contains a large amount of hyaluronic acid. The lower skin layer (dermis) primarily contains two protein fibers: collagen and elastin. Together collagen and elastin create a framework for supporting essential skin structures. The dermis is keep hydrated by floating these proteins and other vital skin structures in a “sea” of hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is capable of binding 1000X its own weight in water and is therefore essential for maintaining skin integrity and fullness.

The ability of our skin to produce hyaluronic acid slowly diminishes with time. As a consequence of this volume loss, our skin becomes looser leading to wrinkling and an aged appearance. Treatment with perlane replaces this lost hyaluronic acid “sea” restoring a healthier, more youthful appearance to your skin.

How does Perlane® differ from other hyaluronic acid-based products?

Perlane is free from animal proteins eliminating the risk for transmission of animal-based disease or allergy to animal proteins.

Is treatment with Perlane® painful?

Perlane is injected in tiny aliquots using an ultrafine needle. Topically applied local numbing creams are often used to minimize any discomfort during this quick procedure. The treatment is performed literally in a matter of minutes. No specific care is needed after the treatment.

Can I use Perlane with Botox?

Yes, in many areas we utilize both products which are not only complementary but in many cases the effects are synergistic. By relaxing muscle movement with botox before injecting Perlane, we often obtain a better aesthetic correction and the Restylane treatments tend to last longer.

How long does Perlane® last?

Results with Perlane are practically instantaneous and typically last up to six months.

In three clinical studies of 150 patients each, on average 70% of patients maintained improvement for six months after just one Perlane treatment.
